Cristóbal Alex is a senior leader in government, politics, and advocacy. He heads Tusk Strategies’ Washington, DC office and plays a key role with Tusk Philanthropies. Alex is a respected commentator on major media outlets, including MSNBC. From January 2021 to May 2022, he served as the White House Deputy Cabinet Secretary, facilitating coordination between the White House and Cabinet on key priorities such as the American Rescue Plan, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and initiatives to promote equity.
Earlier, Alex was a Senior Advisor in the administration, contributing to state and national strategy development, political and coalition efforts during the primary campaign, and the Presidential Transition Team. He was the founding President of the Latino Victory Fund, where he helped elect over 70 candidates to various offices. He also served as National Deputy Director of Voter Outreach and Mobilization for a major presidential candidate.
Before his political career, Alex worked with the Open Society Foundations and the Ford Foundation, managing over $75 million in grants aimed at strengthening democracy. He began his career as a civil rights lawyer with MacDonald Hoague & Bayless in Seattle and led the National Campaign to Restore Civil Rights. A native of El Paso, Texas, Alex lives with his wife, Taí, and their two daughters.
