Frequenty Asked Questions (FAQs)
The pandemic has changed the way many of us live our lives—how we work, gather and celebrate. In consideration of the health and well-being of our community, our annual Building the Beloved Community Gala is going virtual this year! You probably have some questions. Please see below for some commonly asked questions and their answers. Please contact events@elcentrodelaraza.org for additional information.

>>Why is the event called Building the Beloved Community Gala?
“Beloved Community” is a term we adopted from MLK. He believed in a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of fellow human beings. With your support, we can achieve those values by building our community together.

>>What is a virtual event and how do I participate?
We invite you to join us using your telephone, tablet, computer or smart TV on Saturday, October 10 from 6:30-8 PM. Once you register, you will receive an email confirming your registration. As we get closer to the event, will send you additional information on how to connect to our YouTube livestream and participate in our online auction, where you can bid on fabulous items and support El Centro de la Raza. We will also present this year's recipients of the Roberto Felipe Maestas Scholarship and Legacy Award honorees.

>>Is there an admission fee?
There is no cost to attend this year's virtual gala.

>>Do I have to join for the full 90 minutes?
We recommend joining for the pre-event "cocktail hour" starting at 6:30 PM to "warm up" and get ready to roll for the main program starting at 7 PM. It will also be a chance to learn more about El Centro de la Raza and get tips on how to take part in our live auction. Look out for answers to the "did you know?" questions so you'll be ready to win a "couch prize" during the YouTube livestream.

>>Why should I preregister a credit card?
We recommend registering a credit card when you sign-up for the event because we want you to focus on enjoying the program and your overall experience with us. Charges will only be made with your consent. If you prefer to wait, you will be asked register separately for the online auction and enter credit card information before you are able to bid on an item or make a donation.

>>What is a Virtual Team Captain and what is "peer to peer" fundraising?
Well, technically, that is two questions, amig@. A virtual team captain is a champion of El Centro de la Raza who is willing to help raise funds to support our work and mission by asking their friends, family, colleagues (your peers) to make a donation. Learn more about how you can serve as a team captain.

>>I was a Table Ambassador last year and that was how I contributed to the success of the event. How can I do this now that the event is virtual?
First of all, we LOVE you. Thank you for supporting El Centro de la Raza! Please contact us at events@elcentrodelaraza.org and we can discuss how you can renew your support as part of this year's event.

>>May I invite my friends, family, and colleagues to join me?
Absolutely! Please have them register and they will receive all of the information needed to participate along with you.

>>I am unable to attend. May I donate in lieu of attending?
Of course! Click here to donate now.

>>I would like to volunteer to help. Where do I sign up?
Volunteers make the world go round. Please sign-up
here. We can't wait to work with you!
